- Control Arms
-
- A control arm is a
- metal rod or bar
- with a pivot at
- each end. Control
- arms are used to
- attach suspension
- components to the
- chassis.
-
- A-arms are stamped
- or cast with two
- inboard pivots
- points, making them
- stronger than
- normal control
- arms. Some
- lightweight
- front-end designs
- use control arms
- instead of A-arms.
-
- When coil springs
- are used in rear
- suspension, control
- arms are used
- between the rear
- axle housing and
- the frame to carry
- driving and braking
- torque. Lower
- control arms pivot
- where they meet the
- frame members to
- allow up-and-down
- movement of the
- wheel assembly.
- Coil springs are
- often mounted
- between the lower
- control arm and a
- spring seat in
- frame or chassis.
